The Apple 3G iPhone:

Apple’s 3G iPhone is apparently going to shave an impressive 2.5mm off the current iPhone’s case thickness, giving the 3G iPhone a slim-advantage (literally) over the current iPhone. The casing material will also be revised, resulting in a more “high-end” and less “plasticy” feel. Apple’s “smart” phone is a joke by comparison, and AT&;T’s rates are robbery. That’s why it’s important to get an unlockable sim to use on another carrier to lower the cost of service.

Apple’s official position is that iPhone apps may not run in the background, and turn-by-turn navigation is singled out as a mustn’t-do for developers. Apple claim that browsing on the iPhone 3G is 36% faster than on the Nokia N95. Apple is already familiar with the process and is in a better position to gauge the timing of a submission, so think of a release date closer to six weeks, rather than six months from the announcement.
